Understanding Grief: A Pathway to Healing and Transformation

Dear Soul Family,

Grief—such a simple word, yet it carries the depth of our human experience in every fibre of our being. It's a natural, essential part of life. When we lose someone we love, an aspect of ourselves, or something we hold dear, grief makes itself known to us. It's a profound reminder that we have loved deeply, attached ourselves passionately, and cared with all our heart.

Grief arises when we lose what we have a strong connection to—be it a beloved person, a cherished relationship, a treasured possession, a significant role, or even an identity we've held close. Perhaps it's the pain of losing an intimate partner, a parent, a friend, or even the quiet loss of youth and vitality through aging. It can also be the sorrow of letting go of our job, social standing, or a dream that once fuelled us that is no longer possible. Physical objects—our home, heirlooms, photographs—become symbols of our attachment, and their loss can ripple through our emotional landscape.

When we don't allow ourselves to acknowledge and feel the grief of a significant loss, we risk shutting down our emotional body altogether—numbing not just the pain, but also blocking the pathways to joy, to love, to that radiant aliveness that reminds us we're still alive, still capable of beauty, connection, and soul-deep happiness and fulfilment.

But here's the truth: grief is not only about loss. It's about what was meaningful to us—what we valued, what we loved. It's a sign of how deeply we care, how much we've invested of ourselves in something precious. And that makes grief, although painful, also a testament to our capacity to love, to be vulnerable, and ultimately to have a heart and be human.

Moving through grief takes time. It's a process—a sacred journey of honouring your feelings, your memories, and your pain. Yet, all too often, we can become stuck in patterns of grief, feeling unable to move forward, weighed down by unresolved emotions. When we don't allow ourselves to fully feel, clear, and release these feelings, their energy can accumulate, leading to overwhelm, depression, and a clouded sense of hope. Life can begin to feel like an endless struggle, and joy may seem like a distant memory. We may even find ourself adopting unhealthy coping mechanisms such as excessive alcohol consumption, taking drugs, binge eating, excessive spending, numbing out in front of the tv, or mindlessly scrolling as a means to avoid feeling the anger, hurt, frustration, rejection, abandonment, indignation, and blame that can be associated with our loss.

Interestingly, Traditional Chinese Medicine offers us a gentle insight: grief resides within the lung meridian, the energy channel associated with our breath and life force. When we experience breathing difficulties, chest infections, or wake in the early hours of the morning—around 3 to 5 am—it can be our soul's way of letting us know we are carrying grief that needs to be released. These physical symptoms can be a call to listen more deeply, to connect with what we are holding onto emotionally and energetically, and to find ways to release the energy so we can move into a place of deeper acceptance and allow ourself to breathe more fully again.

Releasing grief doesn't mean forgetting or suppressing—it means allowing ourselves to feel, to process, and ultimately to free ourselves from its weight. In this sacred act, we often find hidden gifts—insights about ourselves, clarity about what truly matters, and the liberation to live our lives more fully and authentically .

If you or someone you love is finding it challenging dealing with grief, know that you are not alone. Healing is possible, and support is available. Through gentle energy work, soul-centered guidance, and compassionate presence, you can move through this chapter in ways that honour the loss you've experienced, while also awakening an even greater awareness within you that can reveal an even greater power and light beyond the sorrow.

Grief is a vital part of our human experience. Embrace it with patience and loving kindness, and trust that healing and renewal are always within reach when we allow our grief to guide us to reconnect with those deeper parts of self we might otherwise thought were gone.

With fierce love, radiant joy, heartfelt compassion, infinite curiosity, and unwavering truth,

ree
